In Beauty Remedies, DIY Home Made by Marvin Francis

It’s great spending quality time with the whole family – my presence meant a lot to my parents.  Its being 2 years since they last saw me, and am going to make my stay with them worthwhile. Today I managed to convince my mum and sisters that I have a better alternative to their spa treatments and they were all eager to listen – because of my reputation as a natural remedy expert it wasn’t too hard to convince them after all. Let me get straight to the point here, am going to be using cucumber as my primary ingredient. Cucumber is not only a rich in water but also contains a vast amount of nutrients, powerful antioxidants – and have anti-inflammatory properties that’s very good for your skin

Cucumber Mask #1

For the 1st recipe you will be needing the below ingredients

You’ll Need

  • 1 small cucumber
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Food processor or blender
  • 1 tsp. honey (optional)
  • 1 tsp. aloe vera gel (optional)
  • 1 tbsp. oatmeal
  • Coffee grinder
  • 1 tbsp. brewer’s yeast (optional)

Pheeww!! Start by peeling your cucumber to get rid of the skin. Then place the cucumber inside the blender and blend till it becomes smooth. The add 1tsp of honey or aloe vera into the cucumber puree. This extra ingredient are optional, but they sure do come with their own beauty benefits. The honey has antimicrobial effect while the aloe acts as a moisturizer. The mask needs one more ingredient that will give it an exfoliating effect. So, I choose to use oatmeal – now grind 1 tsp of oat meal into a fine consistence. I used my coffee grinder. Add the grinded oatmeal into the cucumber puree and mix thoroughly. Finally add 1 tbsp. spoon of brewer’s yeast – the yeast is an excellent source of B-complex vitamin which nourishes the skin and tightens pores.

Cucumber Mask #3

Although I only demonstrated the 1st mask, but I thought it will be great to give you a list of other cucumber mask. This particular one calls for cucumber, mint and egg white. The egg white will help tighten your pores while the cucumber and mint will help hydrate and cleanse your skin.

You need:

  • 1 small Cucumber
  • Mint
  • Egg White from one egg
  • Food processor or blender

Direction: Get your ingredients ready and wash them properly. Peel the cucumber to get rid of the back – combine all the ingredients together and blend till it forms a smooth consistency. You can now apply on your face – make sure to leave it for at least for 25 minutes till it dries up. Rinse off afterwards and pat dry

Cucumber Mask #4

This third mask is packed with rich anti-oxidant which helps rid your face of wrinkles and fine lines. Cucumber on the other hand is an excellent source of silica which helps improve your complexion and health of your skin – due to its high water content it hydrates and makes your skin glow.

You will need:

  • 1 small Cucumber
  • Aloe vera
  • ½ Lemon
  • Food processor or blender

Direction: Get all your ingredients ready. Squeeze out the juice from lemon, but you will only be using 1 tsp of lemon juice to prevent it from burning your face. Then scrape the gel from the aloe vera leave and keep it aside. Now peel your cucumber – put all the produce into a blender and blend till it forms a thick consistency. Please this mask should not be applied on sensitive parts like the mouth and eyes.

Cucumber Mask #4

The fourth mask calls for cucumber, brown sugar, honey and milk. Your guess is right the brown sugar acts as an exfoliant. Boy when you are done using this mask your face will feel fresh rejuvenated.

You need:

  • 1 Small Cucumber
  • 1 tsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • Food processor or blender

Direction: Get all your ingredients together – peel the cucumber to get the green back away. Blend the cucumber to a smooth consistence. Add 1 tsp of honey, ¼ cup of milk and 1 tsp of brown sugar and mix thoroughly. You can add it back to the blender to make the solution blend properly. Apply the mask on your face and leave for about 20 minutes to dry up. Then was off the mask.

Cucumber Mask #5

The fifth mask recipe calls for yogurt and cucumber. Yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, both of which helps get rid of dead skin cells. The yogurt combined with cucumber will help soothe sunburned skin – if you have discolored and uneven skin tone, I suggest you try out this mask. It’s also great for pimples.

You need:

  • 1 Small Cucumber
  • 1 tsp Yogurt
  • Food processor or blender

Direction: Get all your ingredients ready – make sure you are using plain unsweetened and unflavored yogurt to avoid skin irritations. Peel the cucumber and blend it together with the yogurt. If you have dry skin add a bit of coconut or olive oil. Apply on face and leave for about 20 minutes, let it dry before washing off.

Cucumber Mask #6

The sixth cucumber mask is similar to the first one but with exclusion of oatmeal. The presence of honey in this recipe helps promote the growth of new tissues while contributing to a healthy and supple skin. Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention – it is rich in antioxidant that helps slow down aging process.

You need:

  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 small Cucumber
  • 1 tsp Aloe Vera
  • Food processor or blender

Direction: Peel the cucumber and blend with your blender – add 1 tsp of honey into the blender. Keep blending till it forms a smooth consistency. Apply to your face and massage on face properly. Leave it for 15minutes before drying off. Rinse off and pat dry.

Natural Beauty tips when using cucumber face masks

  • If you are using your cucumber right out from the refrigerator. Please let it reach room temperature before using it for your mask
  • I have learnt to put an apron or place an old cloth on my body while applying the mask, to avoid the mask dripping on my cloth.
  • Before applying the mask, wash your face thoroughly. If you wear makeups – I need not to tell you that you have to cleanse and wash your face first.
  • To make the mask more effective, do a hot water steam, this will open your pores, while making the mask very effective.
  • While waiting for the cucumber mask to dry – you can place two slices of cucumber on your eyes. Doing this helps reduce puffiness and diminish dark circle around your eyes
  • Use rose water to cleanse your face after washing off the mask, this will help close your pores and re-fresh your skin.
  • Don’t be too eager to throw away the excess mask – you can still use it for your neck, chest and shoulder. It can also be stored in the refrigerator for future use – but don’t store for too long.
  • When you are done with your mask – consider applying a moisturizing gel or lotion of your choice.
