Guess that was the cause of my sudden old man look. I had to do something to get rid of them. I look like I had the whole problems in the world – the worst was that I had a photo-shoot coming up the next few weeks, so I can’t be caught dead looking like a zombie. The interesting thing about Indian is that sourcing for ingredients to use for your remedies is as easy as a breeze. In Indian peeps hardly use over the counter beauty products – spices of different kinds are scattered every nook and cranny. If you are still wondering what dark circles are – they are simply dark blemishes seen around the eyes. They are as a result of blood vessel beneath the eyes becoming visible – having dark circle gives you a tired look, even when you are not tired. Other factors that can lead to dark circle are hereditary, allergies, anemia, sickness and poor diet. Dark circle is mostly common among older people. If you are young and have dark circle – then it’s time to do something about it. Don’t worry, read on, you will definitely know what to do. Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Dark Circles
If you really serious about treating your dark circles, then you should consider using cucumber. A friend of mine once told me about this but I took it with a pinch of salt, not until another friend confirmed the claims. I recommended it to a client, after a while she came back with positive Feedback. Cucumber has skin lightening effect and is an excellent astringent and skin toner. To use cucumber in this fashion, simple cut the cucumber into slices. Place the slices in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Then remove and place them on the affected area for about 10 minutes. Wash off the area and pat dry. Repeat this process twice daily for a week.
Alternatively you can mix equal amount of cucumber juice and lemon juice. With the aid of a cotton ball apply the solution on the affected area and leave it for about 20 minutes. Wash of and pat dry. Do this every day for a week, you will be surprise on how your dark circle will begin to vanish. If you don’t have lemon readily available, you can make do with just cucumber juice. Simply dip two cotton swab into cucumber juice and place it on top of your eyes. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then wash off with plain water. Do this daily, trust me you will see positive results.
When the idea of this post came to my mind, I knew the best person to call was Jessica. Jessica is natural beauty expert, most of the things I write about beauty I learnt from her. So I asked Jessica what natural remedy she recommends for removing dark circle and her 1st answer was the Rose water. She recommends you dip two cotton balls into rose water and place them on your eye lids. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. Repeat this twice daily for at least 2 weeks for best results
Am thrilled to add almond oil on this list because I have witnessed it work, not just on anybody, but on me. I used almond oil under my own eyes for close to a month, before going to bed. Over time the skin under my eye became lighter. To try this yourself simply place a few drops of almond oil on your fingers and gently massage it around your eyes. Jessica’s second remedy for dark eyes is tomato juice. Although I knew that tomato is widely used for various beauty remedies, but it never occurred to me that you can also use it for dark circles. To make it even more potent mix one table spoon of tomato juice with on tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture on the affected area. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. There after rinse off with cold water. I suggest you do this twice daily for best results. An alternative way is to create a concoction of tomato juice, mint leaves and lemon juice – with a pinch of salt. Take this concoction orally, twice daily for about a week
I have always known about potato’s ability to remove dark circles, because I have always seen my mum use it when I was much younger, so when Jessica mentioned it – it wasn’t much of a surprise. The idea is to apply potato juice on the affected area. It will be much easier if you have a juicing machine. Simply juice the potato to extract its liquid. Dip two cotton balls in the potato juice and place it on the dark circles, making sure that the juice covers the affected area. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse off with cold water. Try this out twice daily for best results. You can take this recipe a bit further and add cucumber juice. Repeat all the steps outline above.
My first encounter with turmeric root was during my stay in Indian. Ever since then, turmeric never seizes to amaze me. I virtually see turmeric mentioned in most Indian Ayurveda practice – I have taken the time to study this herb. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties helps clear dark circles. Simply add few drops of pineapple juice to two teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply this paste on the dark circles and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Then wipe off with a damp cloth. Lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C, it will also interest you to know that lemon had skin lightening properties. Curious to know how? Simple cleanse your face with lemon juice for a long period of time – your face will gradually become lighter and brighter. For the purpose of removing dark circles under eyes, with the aid of a cotton swab apply lemon juice under your eyes. Let it sit for about half an hour, wipe it off with a damp cloth. Repeat this process two time daily for best results.
A second alternative is to mix one tablespoon of lemon and two tablespoon of tomato puree to form a thick paste – add a pinch of gram flour and turmeric powder. Apply the paste around your eyes. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with clean water. Repeat this process at least thrice weekly.
Mint leaves is one of the most effective remedy to consider when removing dark circles. You got to love mint leaves, because it gives a cooling effect to the eyes – while soothing and refreshing your eyes. To start, crush five mint leaves and apply them around your eyes. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then wipe off with a cold cloth. Dear one, just be careful so it doesn’t touch any sensitive part of your eye. An alternative way to use mint leave is to add it to your tomato puree to for a thick paste. Apple this paste on the dark circle. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and pat dry.
Apple also does a great job in getting rid of dark circles. It is an excellent source of tannic acid that plays a huge role in skin lightening – also rich in vitamin B, C and potassium which helps nourish skin around the eyes. To start with this remedy, simply cut your apple into slices and place them under the eyes. Leave for 20 minutes and wash off with cold water. You can also mash the apple and apply under eye for the same effect.
Chamomile Tea Bags:
You can also tryout chamomile tea bags, there are various speculation it works too, although I have never tried it out myself – but various reliable sources confirmed its potency. Simple soak chamomile tea bags in hot water and rinse it in cool water. Place them on your eyes and let it sit for 20 minutes. Wash off the areas with plain water. Alternatively tea bags can also be used to achieve same effect, this is due to the caffeine and antioxidant present in tea – which helps get rid of dark circles and puffiness under eyes by shrinking the blood vessels and reducing fluid retention – the tannins also helps decrease swelling and discoloration. Simply chill two used green or black tea bags in the refrigerator for 2 minutes. Place them over your eyes and leave for about 15 minutes. Remove the tea bag afterwards and wash off. Do this ones or twice daily for a few weeks.
Hey buddy, now you know all the remedies to use, I have a few pointers I need you to know. Knowing all the remedies and still not changing your unhealthy lifestyle wouldn’t do you much good. You wouldn’t want the dark circle to keep coming back! Would you?
Water intake plays a huge role to avoid the occurrence of dark circle. Drinking at least 15 cups of water daily will help prevent dehydration that can also lead to dark circles.
- Always consume your vegetables. For me, I get more vegetable into my body through juicing – the soluble fiber helps clear toxins in the body
- Don’t be like me – have enough sleep, at least 7 to 9 hours per day. Lack of sleep is the major cause of dark circles.
- People with sweet tooth are more prone to have dark circles – so avoid eating too much sweet.
- Do your work give you stress? If you answered yes to that – please resign, it’s not worth it. Find the work you love… wel, that’s just my own opinion.
- Smoking and doing junk can also lead to dark circles. Try as much as you can to avoid those
- Avoid the use of too much make up or chemical bleaching around your eye.
- Reduce your salt intake. When salt accumulates in your body it leads to excessive fluid retention, which in turns leads to under eye puffiness.
- Try as much as possible to get enough vitamin E into your daily diet – feel free to supplement. Vitamin E helps cure dark circles.
- Increase your intake in food rich in vitamin C. These food will keep you fresh and make your skin glow every day. Foods like oranges, lemon and grape fruit.
