I hate to see acne on my face, most times when they are appear, its hard for me to resist the urge of picking them. And I always end up with a swollen face. As I write this article, my face is bruise with an unripe acne I just picked. Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles becomes blocked with oil and dead skin cells.
It’s usually characterized by red pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. They occur most on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. Oily skins type are more prone to acne infection, because oil clogs the pores of your skin. When dirt gets introduced to the oil, they get stuck and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. How To Treat Acne With Tea Tree
Diluted Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Before using the Tea Tree for acne you must first dilute it with water before applying to the affected area. This is because the tea tree oil is too strong and can irritate your skin
- 4 drops of Tea tree
- ½ cups of water
- Cotton Swab
Directions: Start by washing off your face with plain water and soap – pat dry face. Pour four drops of tea tree oil into ½ cups of water. Now, soak the cotton swab into the diluted tea tree oil and apply on your acne. Let it air dry on the acne – you don’t need to wash face afterwards. Do this at least twice daily for best results.
Tea Tree Oil with Jojoba Oil
Jojoba when combined with tea tree give greater healing effects. It’s anti-bacteria and helps fight bacteria causing acne. The interesting thing about Jojoba is that it has an amazing similarity with human sebum. When applied to acne can trick your skin into believing that the amount of sebum produced is enough. Thus seizes the production of more sebum.
- 1 tsp of Jojoba oil
- 5 drops of Tea tree oil
Direction: Start by washing your face with warm water and pat dry with a clean wash cloth. Mix 1 tsp of Jojoba oil to 5 drops of Tea tree oil. Soak your cotton swab into the mixture. Making sure it is not dripping. Dab it on your acne. Do this 3-4 times daily
Aloe Vera and Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Tea tree also goes well with aloe vera to create a potent mix for acne. Aloe vera is moisturizing and rejuvenating to the skin. It contains hormones known as gibberellins and polysaccharides which kills acne-causing bacteria. When applied on skin helps reduce inflammation while soothing the skin. Due to its powerful antioxidant, Vitamin E and C, it help reduce scars. Aloe vera also purifies the blood and stimulate cell growth. There by healing damage or scarred skin
- 2 tsp Aloe vera gel
- 5 drops Tea tree oil
- Lukewarm water
Direction: Make a mixture of aloe vera and tea tree. Using a clean fingers, apply the mixture to the acne and its surrounding area. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, it should dry off by them. Wash off with warm water. Do this 3 times a week for best results.
Make Clay Mask with Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Bentonite clay also known as montmorillonite, extracted from the active deposit in Wyoming. Bentonite clay is absorbent. - 2 tbsp Green clay/ Bentonite clay
- 3-4 drops of Tea tree oil-
- Water- enough to make paste
Direction: Start by making a paste with the Bentonite clay by mixing it with enough water. Now, add 4 drops of tea tree oil to the clay paste and mix thoroughly. Apply the clay paste to your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Wash it off afterwards and pat dry. When starting off newly, do this daily for two weeks, after which you reduce your pace to twice a week.
Honey and Tea Tree Oil Mask for Acne
Honey and Tea Tree is a great duo for acne. Honey with is a natural antibiotic which helps get rid of acne causing bacteria. Its acidity helps prevent the growth of acne causing bacteria and clear acne. It also removes excess oil, while leaving the skin smooth and moisturized
- 1 tsp of Honey
- 3 drops of Tea tree oil
- Warm water
Directions: Mix 1 tsp of honey and 3 drops of tea tree oil. With your clean fingers, apply the mixture to your face and massage thoroughly. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, before washing off with warm water. Repeat this 2-3 times weekly..
Tea Tree Oil Scrub for Acne
You can make your own tea tree scrub my mixing tea tree with two of my best ingredients. These ingredients are baking soda and coconut oil. Baking soda make it impossible for acne causing bacteria to thrive. It also acts as a gentle exfoliate that removes excess oil and dead skin. It anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties helps soothe acne. Coconut oil has made its name as the number 1 natural beauty product. I can’t overemphasize the benefits of coconut oil. It contains two powerful antimicrobial agents, capric acid and lauric acid. They helps fight off acne causing bacteria. When combined with tea tree, will neutralize the drying effect of tea tree by moisturizing your skin.
- ½ cup of Coconut oil
- ½ cup of Baking soda
- 15-20 drops of Tea tree oil
Directions: Get a medium sized bowl and mix all the ingredient with it. Store the resulting mixture in a glass jar. To use, start by washing your face, followed by a facial steam. Wash your finger, then take a generous amount from the jar and apply to your face. Massage on face for a few minutes. After the massage, leave it for about 4 minutes. Repeat this daily, you should begin to see result in no time.
Oatmeal Tea Tree Oil Mask for Acne
Oat meal is popularly used in facial mask, dry shampoo, skin Reliever and hydrator. In this example I will be combining oatmeal with Tea Tree, Honey and Tea Tree. These three ingredient are well known for their anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Follow the steps below to prepare your own acne facial mask.
- 2 tsp Ground oatmeal
- 2 tsp Honey
- 4 drops Tea tree oil
- ½ tsp of Lemon juice (optional)
Directions: Start by first drying your oatmeal me, you can use a coffee grinder. Now mix all the ingredient above to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Wash off thereafter with warm water. Repeat this twice weekly before bed time.
Yogurt and Tea Tree Oil for Acne
Yogurt and Tea tree does wonders to your skin. Yogurt is an excellent source of lactic acid which helps kill acne causing bacteria. Yogurt also balances the pH levels of the skin, so prevent further breakout of acne. When mixed with tea tree gives a quick fix for acne
- 3 tsp of Plain yogurt
- 3 drops Tea tree oil
Directions: Get a small bowl ready. Add 2 tsp of plain yogurt and 3 drops of tea tree into the bowl and mix thoroughly. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for about 20 minute. Wash off with water afterwards. Repeat this 3 times weekly
How to Use Tea Tree Oil for Cystic Acne
Cystic acne are more severe form of acne. They are usually characterize with red and painful breakouts deep down in your skin. These types of acne can linger for years. They affect larger areas of your skin while leaving a permanent scar. Tea tree does a great job in the treatment of cystic acne. It does this by reducing inflammation and killing bacteria causing these cysts.
- 15 part of Water
- 2 part Tea tree oil
- Cotton swab
Direction: Mix 2 part of tea tree oil to 15 parts of water a little bowl. Using a cotton swab soak the mixture and apply on acne cysts. Repeat this 3 times daily for best results

Baking Soda and Tea Tree Oil for Acne Scars
Baking soda plays a huge role in most home remedies. It acts as a skin exfoliant to get rid of scarred tissue or skin cells. When used with tea tree can help fade away acne scars
- 1 part Baking soda
- 2 part Water
- 3 Tea tree oil
Directions: Mix 1 part of baking soda to 3 parts of tea tree oil – to form a consistent paste. Apply on the acne infected areas and message in a circular motion. Wash off with warm water and pat dry. Repeat daily
Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil Fade Acne Scars
You can also experiment with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Tea tree oil. Aloe vera, as you have read earlier, facilitates healing of skin. When you combine it with vitamin E, its quality of healing doubles up. Vitamin E is effective against acne scars, but is more effective in mild acne cases. It penetrate deep into your skin and heals scar right from the root
- 2 tbsp Aloe vera gel
- 1 capsule Vitamin E
- 2 drops Tea tree oil
Direction: Mix all the ingredient together in a small bowl. Wash your hands and dip your fingers into the oil to collect a little quantity. Apply this to your face or area where acne are prevalent. Let it sit for 30 minutes, before washing off with cold water. Repeat this daily for best results
Olive Oil and Tea Tree Oil for Acne Scar Healing
Olive oil also blends well with tea tree oil to form a potent mix for acne. Olive oil is an excellent moisturizer. It contains anti-oxidant properties that helps heal scarred skin, while restoring the natural elasticity of the skin
- 1-2 tsp Olive oil
- 1 drop Tea tree oil
Do this: Mix 2 tsp of olive oil and 1 drop of tea tree oil in a small bowl. Clean your fingers and dip it into the bowl of oil. Be careful not to take much of the oil. A pea size drop will serve. Apply this to your face and gently massage on face. Do this daily for best results
